Legal Services

 The Legal Department’s goal is to educate and assist domestic and sexual violence victims in the use of the civil and criminal justice systems.

What We Do 

  • We provide courtroom advocacy – for PFA court or criminal court;
  • We do court accompaniments for criminal and family court matters;
  • We provide 24/7 crisis counseling: we will meet with a victim at the hospital (to provide support during medical procedures), courthouse (to assist with obtaining an emergency PFA) or at the scene when appropriate (to provide counseling/info and referral);
  • We provide free legal representation for the final PFA hearing; 
  • Systems advocacy on behalf of victims (with police, court personnel, district justices, judges, etc.);
  • We train systems (e.g., police, court personnel, district justices, judges, etc.).
