Internship

Guidelines for Internships

We are delighted to have students augment their education with hands-on experience at Berks Women in Crisis. In an effort to make this a mutually beneficial experience for both our interns and the individuals that we serve, we require that all interns outline their goals and objectives as an attachment to the application. Many colleges/universities have specific requirements for an internship experience. The guidelines and evaluation form must be included with your application, so that we can structure an internship experience that will meet your educational requirements.

Additionally, a letter will be sent to the intern’s faculty advisor asking for input up front on what is required for the internship. This dialogue will help to assure that all academic components are met. There may be times, for a variety of reasons, that BWIC is unable to offer an experience that meets your objectives.

Our staff, specifically your Staff Supervisor and the Volunteer Coordinator, will work with you to outline your “intern/job description” to meet your academic objectives. If at any time you believe that you are not meeting your educational requirements, please discuss this with your Staff Supervisor. It is each intern’s responsibility to manage their own experience; if satisfaction is not achieved by talking with your Staff Supervisor, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator to assist you.

We hope that you have a meaningful experience. We are often the recipients of fine student interns who truly make a difference for the clients and the staff. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
