Emergency PFA Process

  • A District Justice (DJ) on duty will determine whether or not you qualify for the Emergency PFA (EPFA)
  • Be prepared to wait until the DJ can see you.  Be prepared to describe the most recent incident of abuse or threats of abuse made against you.
  • If the DJ grants the EPFA, you will be asked to take a copy to your local police department so they can serve it on the defendant.
  • The DJ provides instructions on how to file a Temporary PFA on the next business day.  If you do not follow the process for a temporary PFA your EPFA will expire and will no longer be valid or enforceable by police.
