On Saturday, May 31, 2008, Berks Women in Crisis will host its third Dining With Friends fundraising event. The idea is borrowed from a yearly event that benefits the AIDS Action Coalition in Huntsville, Alabama. For our first year, our theme was our 30th Anniversary; last year we celebrated with "Magic in the Air" and this year, though we have no theme, we are having fun with our raffle for a midnight black Harley-Davidson 1200C Sportster motorcycle!

On or around May 31, individual supporters or groups of supporters of BWIC who have volunteered to do so in advance will host dinner parties, barbeques, or pot lucks at their homes from 6:00 – 9:00PM.

Party hosts may invite family, friends, neighbors and colleagues to their dinner or party. The party hosts provide food and beverages for their guests, and they will decide how casual or formal their gathering will be.

At 9:00 on May 31, all guests will gather for the Dessert Reception at Penn State Berks Campus in Wyomissing, near the Thun Jannsen Conference Center, where they will mingle in a festive tent, enjoy scrumptious desserts by the Cake Lady, coffee, wine and beer, and dance to the music for the evening.

Each guest’s initial donation at one of these parties includes admission to the dessert reception. Anyone NOT attending a party earlier in the evening, but who would like to attend the dessert reception event, tickets may be purchased separately for $35 each.

How does this event raise funds for BWIC?
  • Each individual party or dinner guest agrees to give their host a tax deductible donation to BWIC. The suggested minimum is $50.00 per person but individual hosts may request their own (higher or lower) donation per person. 
  • Raffle tickets are available for $25; the prize is a Harley-Davidson 1200C motorcyle worth $10,875. A maximum of 1000 tickets will be sold for the raffle.
